HUGE thanks to all of you for making me so happy that it was a good series =-D I also apologize in advance for the ending… Title and lyrics are from Enya’s song, 'May It Be’ {listen to it, it TOTALLY sets the mood}. Dedicated to my lovely darling sweetness:

One Two Three Four Five Six
There was a cool, autumn breeze that blew across the landscape. A single golden leaf fell from where it had long-rested on a tree branch and fell towards the earth. The breeze caught it and sent it on a trail of spins and curves, cresting through the air until it landed silently on the polished black toe of a man’s shoe.
Cesc saw the leaf the same time he felt his hand be squeezed by Catalina. They stared at the polished black surface before them. Neither one of them had to look at one another to know that the tears were streaming down each other’s face.
Cesc felt himself breaking into a hundred pieces as each second passed and another wave of pain and loss beat through his bloodstream. For over forty years they had known each other, thirty-five of those they had been lovers. The last thirty were the best of his life.
The old Catalan felt another wave of tears rise in his body and come pouring out his eyes. This wasn’t fair, it was never supposed to end this way. They were supposed to live on forever, always with each other and growing even older together.
Iker hadn’t even been that old, not even seventy. Cesc sent another emotionally pain-filled curse towards God and the damn cancer that the doctors had found too late to do anything about.
Cesc looked up as people started turning away. Catalina turned into him and hugged him tightly. Cesc hugged her back just as tight. They were all each other had of him now.
Nearby, Santi was holding on to Cristian as the young boy cried. Although he was still a young child, even he seemed to sense that his grandpa Iker wasn’t going to be coming to bring him footballs or lollipops anymore. Santiago himself seemed greatly saddened; after all, Iker had been a second father to him.
Cesc released Catalina as she went over and hugged Santi and her son. Cesc blinked back his tears long enough to place the long-stemmed rose on the surface of the black coffin. Cesc ran a hand down the part where Iker’s face would be.
“I’ll see you soon old man.” He whispered, voice thick with just-suppressed tears. Cesc felt his fragile shield slipping and crumbling the longer he stood there.
He leaned back and swallowed thickly as he turned and hugged Catalina again.
“Let’s go home princesa.” Cesc held her as her tears started over again.
Cesc took a heavy breath as he looked back at the fresh grave. The coffin had started to be lowered into the ground, but Cesc’s rose still stayed on top of the surface of the coffin.
The cold autumn air ruffled leaves nearby and Catalina’s tears brought him back to reality. Cesc felt one last tear run the trail from his eye, down his cheek, before it fell to the ground.
He squeezed Catalina’s hand and got in the back of the limousine. His eyes never left the slowly sinking red rose on top of the smooth black surface.
When the night is overcome
You may rise
To find the sun
Mornié Utúlie [Darkness has come]
Believe and you
Will find your way
Mornié Alantié [Darkness has fallen]
A promise lives
Within you now
A promise lives
Within you now...
