A/N: so…it’s been a while huh? Well here’s a new chapter and I hope that you like it. =-)

Last part here. All previous parts listed here.
Along La Rambla, green buds on the trees began to blossom into brightly colored flowers that brought a delightfully sweet perfume to the air. Petals from the buds that had fallen during the past week’s rain collected in masses on the streets and sidewalks. La Boqueria was busier than usual with customers interested in looking at the lovely flowers and fresh foods recently brought to sale. The temptation of spring’s warmth was a welcome reprieve after an unusually cold winter and thus had people out in droves to enjoy the sunshine.
Further down the avenue, Amor Eterno was enjoying the lull that lazy afternoon’s brought along with them. A few late-lunchers were chatting and enjoying themselves while a few people sat at the bar and contemplated life. In the kitchen, the chefs minded their work and chatted amongst each other. A few short feet away inside of his office, Raul leaned back in his chair and looked at his office guest with raised eyebrows.
“Are you sure that that is a good idea?”
Pep sighed heavily and ran a hand over his face. “I honestly don’t but what other option do we have? They are her sons and she has every right to see them. I cannot tell her no in that respect.”
Raul sighed in response and nodded in agreement. He did not like it, but it was not up to him what happened. “I don’t think the boys will take to it very well when you tell them. And the way Cesc has been for the past couple months...”
“I know.” Pep looked at Raul. “But you can bet I will tell them off if Maria does or says anything. Her or her good for nothing first born.”
Raul nodded to Pep’s words. “I just don’t want them hurt. They’ve suffered enough thanks to the pair of them and enough is enough.”
“The scary part to me is, if she wanted to, Maria could take them back. We have no claim over them.” Pep’s voice was hard and quiet. As much as Raul wished it was not that way, he was forced to agree.
“We have to do something about that. We both love them enough to not let them suffer anymore.”
Pep looked at Raul for a long moment. “I will find a way. That I promise you.”
Raul smiled at the determination in Pep’s voice and expression. “Don’t tell me that, tell them.”
Pep stood up from his chair and walked over and kissed Raul softly. “I’ll bring them by here for dinner after I collect Cesc from that Vicente boy’s house. Bojan will probably bring his friend too.”
Raul smiled. “Well I guess I’ll have to come up with something extra special for dinner then.”
Pep smiled in return and went to stand up but Raul pulled his tie and brought him back down for a deep kiss. “You’re not leaving just yet are you?”
Pep’s expression turned into a grin and kissed Raul harder. “I suppose I can stay for a few more minutes...”
Raul turned in his chair and opened his legs slightly and smirked at his lover. “Close the blinds.”
Cesc stared at the open book in front of him blankly. It wasn’t the fact that the material did not make any sense to him, it was simply that he could not find his mind long enough to focus. On the surface, there was a party’s planning details amongst homework assignments and various facts about school life that was pretty much useless. Also, there were a rather large amount of memories he was suppressing and that he refused to think of.
“I think that when Silva gets back, we should order him to help us.” Vicente said staring at his chemistry book with the same expression that Cesc had, just for a different reason.
Cesc blinked himself out of his thoughts and gave Chente a small smile. “He wouldn’t be able to stop giggling long enough for him to focus on what we need help with.”
Vicente smiled at the book and turned the page. “Honestly, with my parents gone it’s like my house has become the refuge for horny teenagers named David.”
Cesc laughed at that and leaned into Vicente. “It’s a haven here.”
Chente knew from Cesc’s tone, despite his laughter, meant that he was thinking back to what had happened before—if only perhaps slightly and not a full in-depth remembrance of what happened. Cesc hadn’t told him a lot of what happened but he had revealed some things about it. Hearing the tale, as edited a version it may be, Chente just wanted to protect Cesc that much more. Vicente put his arm around Cesc and squeezed gently. “Well, I’m no saint but if I ever get around to it, I’ll open up a sanctuary for my friends so that they can come relax and recuperate.”
Cesc leaned into Chente more and enjoyed the warmth that the other boy had in his touch and from his words. Vicente let Cesc lean against him for as long as he wanted. If he was honest with himself, he enjoyed Cesc needing him although he didn’t like seeing him hurt for any reason.
“Want to know something?” Cesc asked very quietly.
“What?” Chente asked just as quietly so not to ruin the moment.
“I think you are my best friend.”
Chente swallowed and turned to hug Cesc tightly. “I am very honored to have the privilege of being Cesc Fabregas’ best friend.”
A loud thud of the door being pushed open was their only warning before a loud voice spoke and interrupted their moment. “Oh give him a medal and call it a day Cesc.”
Vicente glared at Villa and pulled back from Cesc only slightly. “Did you and your Silva finish already David? Man, you have no staying power.”
Cesc watched Villa’s face tint slightly pink and he shifted to stand in front of Silva in a protective way. Cesc thought with a pang that it was rather adorable the way David protected ‘his boy’ the way he did. It was heartachingly tender the way Villa would go out of his way to make sure that Silva was taken care of. Cesc had noticed at school the way Villa would make sure to say something nice to Silva to make the boy smile. Silva said that at home, David would call or text him and they would chat for a while before Silva had to study.
While he found it adorable and he was happy for his friend, Cesc felt a huge weight of sadness shift on his chest when he realized that he never had that at any point in his life.
“I happen to have a lot of staying power Chente. I just can’t help it if Silva here doesn’t.” Villa gave a look to Silva that Cesc could only classify as sinful and Silva turned a shade of red that Cesc thought existed only in those books of paint swatches.
Chente grinned brightly. “Just make sure you tone it down before my parents get back from Rome or Milan or wherever the hell it is they went.”
Cesc frowned and looked at Chente. “You don’t care that they went off and just left you?”
Vicente shrugged and pulled his chemistry book closer. “I stopped caring about that a long time ago, probably when I was about eight. They left me at Quino’s or Villa’s back then and we had fun together so it didn’t really bother me.”
“Oh.” Cesc shook his head and tried to wrap his mind around that. As he thought about it, he could see why not caring might be a better solution than caring. As much as he wished he didn’t have any feelings for his mother, he could not help but worry if she was okay and at least being taken care of. He could remember being a boy and desperately hoping that his mother would either step up to the plate and care about him and Bojan or that she would just simply disappear. Wish and hope as he might, neither ever happened for the better, it only got worse.
A few minutes of relative silence later, Villa had managed to get Silva to stop blushing long enough to sit down next to him on the sofa and read their English book together. Villa had his arm around Silva’s shoulders while Silva held the book open on both their laps.
“You read fast,” Villa murmured quietly next to Silva’s ear.
“Over two thousand words a minute.” Silva beamed and then ducked his head.
Villa shook his head and kisses Silva’s cheek. “You amaze me baby.”
Silva avoided the compliment by lowering his eyes. “I’ll wait for you before I turn the page.”
Villa kissed Silva softly with a smile. “Thank you baby.” Vicente coughed loudly and turned the page to his own book and Silva blushed more. “Vicente, if you don’t like our lovey dovey moments then maybe you should consider getting a boyfriend, or a girlfriend.”
Chente scoffed while he stood up and stretched. “If I wanted one, I would go find one.” Cesc noticed that Chente winked at him when he said it. “Come on Cesc, let’s go get something to drink. All this studying is making me thirsty.”
Cesc stood up and ignored Villa’s remark about something else that could make Vicente thirsty as he followed the elder boy out of the room. They went down the elaborate staircase and started for the kitchen when the doorbell rang.
Vicente sighed but excused himself to go answer the door. “It’s probably Quino or somebody.”
Cesc loitered by the door with his hands in his pockets while Chente was at the door. The Rodriguez’s lived in a very elaborate house in the Santi Martí district. Cesc noticed that all the elaboration seemed slightly useless because what was the point in having it if no one was ever around to see it? It’s not like the one person who was there all the time noticed it.
“Um, Cesc?” Vicente’s voice broke the quiet and Cesc looked up expectantly. Vicente moved out of the doorway and Pep appeared in Cesc’s line of vision.
“I’m sorry to interrupt,” Pep started with his hands in his pockets as he looked around the corridor for a moment. “Cesc, I came to get you for dinner. We need to talk son.”
Cesc stared at his uncle for a minute before he nodded. “I will just go get my things.”
On his way back up the stairs he felt his body filling with nervousness and tension. What was such a big deal that Pep had to come personally collect him for? Had he done something wrong? The worst of his thoughts, the irrational ones, moved forward and suggested an immediate dismissal of him and Bojan and that they would be sent back to live with his mother and Pep would never want to see him again.
He nervously collected his things and said goodbye to the two David’s and quickly went back downstairs. He said goodbye to Vicente and followed Pep outside to his car. Cesc noticed absently that it was Pep’s personal car this time and not the chauffeured one. Bojan was in the back seat and smiled a boyish smile when he saw Cesc.
Cesc climbed in the backseat next to his brother while Pep came around to the other side. As the car slowly went down the driveway, Cesc watched as Vicente’s house started to shrink in the rearview mirror. Pep caught his eye and nodded once to him.
Cesc watched the roads get more crowded as Pep drove further into the city, he wondered what was going on. What did Pep’s nod and silence mean?
As La Rambla came into view, Cesc swallowed hard and waited for his world to be flipped upside down.
