Bojan frowned at the words written on the paper. He turned the paper over, but those were the only words written on it. His head snapped up and he looked around for anyone watching him, but everyone else was otherwise occupied with either their I-PODs or their friends. Bojan accidentally nudged Gerard’s arm and suddenly the blue-eyed defender was looking at him.
“Hmm? Bo?”
Bojan blinked and turned to Gerard and shook his head. “Nothing. Sorry, I bumped you.”
“Looking for who charmed the captain?” Geri chuckled and when Bojan looked a little embarrassed, Gerard stopped laughing. “Bojan, just let it go. It’s not that big of a deal. I really thought you were straight anyway? Or have you been experimenting with Leo again?”
Bojan flushed scarlet and Gerard started to laugh again. “Let it go! You weren’t even supposed to be there!”
Gerard ruffled Bojan’s hair and laughed. “Okay, I won’t tell anyone that you and Leo tried to see who was better at wearing high heels.”
Bojan flushed more and slumped down into his seat and pouted. Geri grinned at him and turned back towards the aisle to resume talking to Llorente. Bojan looked out the window and watched as France started to fade away and Spain grew.
Why should he care about Iker’s personal life? Gerard was right, he was supposed to be straight as an arrow. He twisted his fingers in his lap as he thought about it. What could be so wrong with liking Iker? It wasn’t like he liked every single man on the planet, only one. Couldn’t that be okay? He wanted someone to agree with him and to tell him it was okay that he liked Iker in that way.
He turned his head as Gerard laughed and considered it. Geri didn’t seem repulsed when he had told him about Iker’s previous boyfriends. He didn’t seem to mind the whole team being sexually linked somehow.
“H-hey Geri? Can I ask you something?” Bojan started nervously.
Geri finished with Fernando and turned back. “Sure, what’s on your mind? More Iker questions?” He asked with a grin.
Bojan shook his head. “Not this second, but I did want to ask you. You don’t like someone like that do you? Like the others…?”
Gerard shrugged. “I’ve had my fair share. Why?”
Bojan stared at him. “W-what? Who?!”
“There’s a reason why me and Puyi know each other’s movements so well.” He winked and grinned.
“But…you…he…” Bojan continued to stare and Gerard shifted closer.
“Bo, just relax. There’s nothing wrong with it. We all have different preferences and mine just happen to be for both. There isn’t any shame in that.”
Bojan nodded at the honest look in his friend’s eyes. He felt slightly calmer about his worries because Gerard had said it was okay. Liking a man was okay and there wasn’t a problem with it.
“You’re probably more confused than ever about this trip.” Geri smiled and squeezed his knee. “Don’t worry. The shock of it will go away soon enough when we get back. Things will be normal again, I promise.”
Bojan nodded silently and looked back out the window. He wasn’t really sure if he wanted things to go back to normal after all.
The bus finally came to stop outside the familiar stadium that Bojan loved with his whole heart. It was several hours after they had left France and it was now getting dark outside. Bojan picked up his things and followed Gerard again to the exit.
He just wanted to go home and crawl into his bed and go sleep for the rest of the week. He didn’t think that there was that much of a problem with that. Bojan followed after Geri towards his car. Gerard had promised to drop him off at home before they had even left several days ago.
“Hey kid, wait up.”
Bojan inwardly grimaced at the name and turned to see Sergio walking towards him with Fernando. He held out a piece of paper when he got close enough.
“From the captain.” Sergio nodded towards the note. Bojan took it and looked questioningly at Sergio while he opened it with his thumb. “I’m supposed to wait for a reply.”
“Thanks again for the goal, lad.” Niño smiled at Bojan a second later. “I owe you one.”
Bojan blushed softly. He was grateful that it was getting darker and his embarrassment was covered temporarily. “No problem. It was a good goal.”
He opened the note and read Iker’s neat and stylish handwriting.
Bojan— I realize you must think I’m a stuffy old captain that’s supposed to be feared, but that isn’t the case. You made me smile and relax and you have no idea how much I really appreciate that. I really hope you’ll be called up again soon and we can talk more. If you want to talk to me before the next call up, you can you know. I wouldn’t mind at all. Otherwise, I guess I’ll see you for el Classico. Good luck on the rest of your season. Iker.
Bojan swallowed at the words and felt a small smile on his lips. From somewhere far off into the distance, he heard Gerard sigh and mutter something about taking forever to read a piece of paper. Sergio was talking to Nando about the next call up. Bojan didn’t pay any attention to them.
Iker wanted to talk to him. He wanted to see him again, soon. For that reason, Bojan smiled and refolded the paper. He looked up at Sergio.
“You can tell him yes, I would love to.”
Sergio frowned but then he shrugged. “I don’t know what you’re talking about but I’ll tell him. See you round kid.”
Fernando smiled at him once more before the pair of them started back for the bus. Bojan looked up to the bus to see if he could see Iker but all he saw was the dark tint of the windows. He folded the paper in his hand and put in his pocket before he turned back to Gerard.
“Come on Geri, let’s go home.” Bojan smiled happily at him and Geri rolled his eyes.
“Good, once I drop you off I have a hot date with a tall brunette. Body of a god that man.” Gerard grinned and Bojan groaned.
“Save it, I don’t want to know!” Bojan’s complaint was stifled by his laughter.
With a smile, Gerard put his arm around Bojan’s shoulders and led him back towards his car in the parking lot.
The bus left the Camp Nou several minutes later on its way to the airport. Several would be taking a flight back to Madrid, others Valencia, and some to Liverpool. From one of the seats in the back, dark eyes watched as Sergio shifted closer to Iker. With half the bus’ occupancy gone, it was easier to hear what was being said in the front.
“He said yes and that he would love to. Whatever that means.” Sergio was saying to Iker. Ramos’ words caused him to frown. He frowned even more when Iker smiled brightly back.
“That’s perfect. Thank you Sese.” Another smile at Sergio, a more personalized one this time. Sergio smiled back before moving back to sit with Torres.
He frowned and leaned further back in thought. Iker was happy about something that little brat had agreed to, but what was it? He continued to watch Iker and tried to think of what could possibly make Iker so happy.
Wasn’t he the one that was supposed to be making Iker smile? Hadn’t he given the kid a clear warning to stay away?
With a scowl on his face, he realized that he would have to make his message a little clearer. Since Bojan wouldn’t electively stay away, he would have to make Bojan stay away.
